Costumed guides take guests around the Seward House grounds across the darkened streets of downtown Auburn, sharing chilling tales of Victorian funeral practices, spectral encounters from Seward family lore, grizzly true crime stories, and other spooky accounts drawn from local folklore and history. A batch of new terrifying-yet-true stories of have been added for 2018, so you won’t want to miss the eerie experience!

Yale Professor of Pathology Dr. Gustave Davis returns to Auburn to discuss the fascinating—and occasionally gruesome medical history—of the Seward family, and of Auburn in general, in the middle 19th century. Davis will do this through the story of Doctor Theodore Dimon, Seward’s doctor, personal friend, and one of his few contemporaries with a life story to match his own. Dimon was an original 49er, Republican stalwart, Civil War diarist, Superintendent of the Auburn Prison, and creator of the Gettysburg National Cemetery.

Back by popular demand! Embrace the changing of the seasons in the crisp air of an outdoor walking tour led by museum staff from the Seward House and the Cayuga Museum. The foliage and the history will both be on full display as guides take you on a winding stroll that features Auburn’s historic downtown district and Fort Hill Cemetery. Learn about the architecture and history behind many of the city’s most iconic homes, buildings, and properties.

Girl Scout Badge Day is an opportunity for Girl Scouts at all levels to experience hands-on history and earn badge requirements. This event celebrates Constitution Day and the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment giving American women the right to vote. The Finger Lakes Region of New York was a hotbed of women’s rights and abolition activity, making our museum the perfect location to learn about both.

Join us for a First Friday reception! Enjoy complimentary refreshments and docents interpreting the dining and drawing rooms, while on display in the gift shop, a collection of multi-media artwork by Donna Schaefer Nicholas, titled "Memory Dream and Vision". Also featured, will be music by The Honky Tonk Hindooz from Auburn, NY, who play an eclectic mix of psychedelic garage country and weirdo rock-n-roll oldies.
