As visitors learn about Christmas traditions of the Sewards, actors portraying various members of the family emerge to share heart-warming holiday memories gleaned from their letters and diaries. The evening ends with timeless carols sung around the family’s 1872 Steinway piano.

During his career, William Seward was no stranger to the importance of journalism in public life, nor to the realities of hyper-partisan entanglements within the Fourth Estate. Beloved by Whig newspapers, denounced in Democratic presses, and often challenged by independent reporters, Seward navigated it all. A century and a half later, the Seward House Museum is pleased to welcome Jami Floyd to help us navigate the state of the news and politics today. The host of NPR’s popular “All Things Considered” program in WNYC in New York City, Floyd is one of the country’s leading journalists.
