SHM staff travels to Washington DC to celebrate the Sesquientennial Purchase of Alaska!

Join us for the first Garden Clean-up Day of the season!

Based on Seward's own accounts and showcasing rarely-seen collection items from the Museum, this tour focuses on the travels of on of America's first international tourist.

Celebrate the sesquicentennial of Mr. Seward's Alaska purchase in style. Following the unveiling of the new Seward statue, join us for this elegant event which brings the best of Alaskan inspired cuisine, catered by the award-winning Inns of Aurora. Sway to the big band sounds of the Salt City Jazz Collective. Santiago Cigar Factory will be providing hand-rolled cigars as homage to Mr. Seward, a connoisseur of fine cigars.

After the statue's unveiling, sculptor David Rubin will reveal the fascinating stories behind the Seward statue.

Happy Cinco de Mayo! In 1869, Mr. Seward visited Mexico and brought back two paintings, now on display in our dining room. Join us as we open our dining and drawing rooms, highlighting artifacts from Seward's trip to Mexico as well as other countries around the world.

In addition to these unique artifacts, Tom Hussey's work will be featuerd in our contemporary gift shop gallery space. Hussey is a local artist known for his beautiful work with landscapes and local Auburn scenes.

This First Friday, the Seward House Museum will be unveiling the completion of our library restoration! Join us to view the historically accurate wallpaper in the library, made locally by Adelphi Paper Hangings in Sharon Springs, NY. Adelphi Paper Hangings is a small, artisanal producer historically accurate block printed wallpapers for museums and historic institutions. To help ensure that the art and craft of traditional handmade wallpapers would survive, Adelphi established the only commercial production facility for block printing historic papers in the United States.
