The Museum will be closed on Thursday, December 2nd for a private event.

The Seward House Museum will be closed on November 25th in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

Are you feeling the Thanksgiving spirit? Wondering what that holiday might have looked like in the Seward House? In this livestream, SHM Director of Education Jeff Ludwig will give a brief talk on Secretary of State William Henry Seward's efforts to nationalize Thanksgiving - creating it as our modern day holiday - during a bleak moment during the Civil War. Noted Seward reenactor Jack Sherman will portray Mr. Seward in his home, offering a dramatic reading of the original Thanksgiving Proclamation that Seward wrote for President Lincoln.
