In this livestream, SHM Director of Education Jeff Ludwig will give a brief talk on Secretary of State William Henry Seward's efforts to nationalize Thanksgiving - creating it as our modern day holiday - during a bleak moment during the Civil War. Noted Seward reenactor Jack Sherman will portray Mr. Seward in his home, offering a dramatic reading of the original Thanksgiving Proclamation that Seward wrote for President Lincoln.
