Chair

Small mahogany arm chair rocker. Upholstered back, tops of arms and seat with light, patterned upholstery with floral pattern. Back is curved as a Lincoln rocker. Scroll work on front of chair extending from top of arm to rocker. Referred as a “lady Lincoln” rocking chair Small size.

Cane

Cane of apple wood with silver head. Beetle and child or clown also on head. Cane cut from the apple tree under which Wm. H. Seward II was wounded at the battle of Monocacy, Md, July 9, 1864. Made by A.E. Cobb, Oct. 9.1892.

Bed

American Eastlake double bed. Paneled head and foot boards. Head board has rising center crest with scrollwork on sides. Under this is an horizontal turned bar decoration

Crib

Wicker child’s crib with baldachino frame (separate).

Fire Lighter

Cape Cod Fire Lighter, Modern reproduction, Brass tanked with round brass separate tray. Torch in tanked with rotten stone fire in fireplace. Tanked would be filled with kerosene.

Sliver-Plated Light Stand

Table

American Renaissance/ Rocco walnut table etagere. Single drawer under table top, two serpentine (graduated) shelves – one above and one below table top. Very ornate, openwork scrolling, pointed top and fret-carved gallery.

American Rococo walnut center table with white, turtle shape marble top. Under top is a frieze carved with foliage and cartouches. Four foliate carved double scroll legs connected by an X form stretcher with an urn shaped center ornament. Set on casters.

Sofa

American rococo walnut sofa with red plush upholstery. Floral carved cresting, serpentine seat rail and plume carved cabriole legs. Set on casters.

Lamp

German brass student lamp (one light). Etruscan style oil lamp font on a pedestal base. Electrified. Glass shade (cracked)

Tall Case Clock

American Federal mahogany tall case clock. Made by D. Porter, Williamstown, Mass. Scroll cresting, painted face with phases of the moon. Door and skirt have light wood inlay. Judge Miller's clock - his wife came from Williamstown.

c. 1890   Louis XVI style mahogany upholstered sofa. Reeded legs, open arms partly upholstered. Finials on top of side columns. 

SLEEP SOFA

c. 1840  American Restoration, upholstered sleep sofa. Curved back with scroll arms on bobbin-turned legs. Seward passed away on this couch on October 10, 1872. 

A New York American Empire mahogany sofa with animal paw feet and scrolled arm rests decorated with carved swan heads.  It is upholstered in brown velvet with two "squab" pillows.  The sofa's design is similar to cornucopia sofa.

Carved gilt marble-topped table, the top of which forms a half turtle shape.  Lyre-shaped back with two curved supports extending from the base, which rests on a marble piece.  Floral designs on front panel and large flowers decorate the corners and center panel at the top of the table.

Sinumbra Lamp

Mid 19th Century Gilt base over metal, glass shade, both clear and frosted with square topped prisms.  Electrified. Possibly made in England by the Messenger Co. due to the decorations. No signatures or model numbers to be found on it.  

Heavy, broken cornice decorated with acorns above a two-part glass flanked by pairs of turned and beaded colonnettes.

German relief globe made of paper mâché.

German Paper Mâché Globe

c. 1860 German relief globe made of paper mâché. Was used by Seward in his office at the Department of State. Seward would have received this globe and used it to connect with other officials abroad, and found inspiration for his expansionist ideas during the Johnson administration.

19th century Steinway and Sons rosewood "Patent" grand piano. Given to Janet Watson Seward by Wm. H. Seward II in 1872 on her 33rd birthday.
