Get lost in Civil War era fashion with costume designer Katie Irish. Learn how she "weaves the reality" for Hollywood historical dramas, including "Manhunt," where she was the lead designer. Katie will talk about dressing the "Seward family" and working with the SHM to create TV magic.

For this next installment of our 2024 Distinguished Speaker Series we welcome scholar Harold Holzer. Recipient of the 2015 Gilder-Lehrman Lincoln Prize, Holzer will discuss his latest book on our 16th President entitled "Brought Forth on this Continent: Abraham Lincoln and American Immigration."

Reception at Equal Rights Heritage Center 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM. Lecture at Auburn Public Theater 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM.

The Lunchtime Lecture Series concludes its summer run with Molly Jessup, Education Specialist at Women’s Rights National Historical Park. Jessup will introduce the five organizers of the 1848 Seneca Falls Women's Rights Convention and hear about the pitfalls and triumphs of their grassroots campaign to achieve equal rights.

This event will take place at the Equal Rights Heritage Center and is free and open to the public.

 

 

Bring your folding chairs and love of live theater to the SHM gardens for an open-air performance not to be missed. Set against the backdrop of the Museum’s historic gardens and South Porch, actors from Syracuse Shakespeare-in-the-Park perform this enchanting dramatic comedy.   

This event is free, donations suggested.

An opportunity for Brownie and Junior level Girl Scouts to experience hands-on-history and earn badge requirements, this immersive Fanny Seward-centered program teaches girls about 19th-century America through several fun, participatory activities. Staff from the SHM and Seymour Library will draw on events and memories from Fanny’s life to inspire Scouts about how girls can change the world! Each participant will receive a unique Seward House Museum patch.  

The product of a collaboration between the SHM, Harriet Tubman National Historical Park, Cayuga Museum of History and Art, and Seymour Library, this weeklong camp shares all that “History’s Hometown” has to offer. It is an especially perfect summer experience for 8-10 year olds.
