Lunchtime Lecture Series: The Handcrafted Utopia: Arts and Transformation of the “Burned Over District”

Throughout the early and middle 19th century, Central New York was often referred to as “the Burned Over District,” a testament to enflamed passions and idealism that led to abolitionism, the Women’s Rights Movement, and other forms of radicalism including experimental utopian societies. Tom Guiler, Director at the Oneida Community Mansion House, will explore this evolution and discuss his recent book, The Handcrafted Utopia.
