First Friday Community Event
Jul 6th 2018 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Join us for a First Friday Community Event! The Seward House Museum is pleased to welcome Taryn Surprenant to perform in the historic gardens. Taryn is a singer-songwriter from the mountains of Upstate NY who creates a style of folk that incorporates alternative and blues-infused undertones beneath a carefully crafted narrative. Paired with strong vocals that flow in waves over minimalistic guitar progressions, her lyrics speak to the beauty found within the caverns and chasms of human experience and emotion. Influences span the ages and include blues kings such as Lightnin' Hopkins, folk queens like Joni Mitchell, and female-fronted alternative bands such as Daughter and WILSEN.
The gift shop gallery space will also feature the artwork of Arthur Hutchinson, who created several series of works while employed as a security guard at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He uses both digital conceptual portraits and abstract paper relief sculptures to chronicle his transition from architect to artist. This is his first public show in his hometown of Auburn, NY after living in New York City for almost 18 years.
As always, visitors will be welcomed into the Museum to view the Dining and Drawing Rooms, with docents on hand to answer questions and interpret the spaces. Complimentary refreshments will be provided.
This event is free and open to the public.
