Artist Bio: My life has centered around two interests. I am a social worker and an artist who has explored a full range of creative activities over the years. I am primarily a self-taught artist who enjoys taking risks. My home studio is alive with new ideas and artwork. I imagine my ideas come from my years as an elementary school social worker, my rich family life and daily walks with my dogs. My current studio work explores “la joie de vivre”! It celebrates my interests in embracing the more positive and uplifting aspects of hope, faith and life. I use a whimsical style that combines a variety of different mediums on one page such as watercolor, ink, curated scraps of paper from books, magazines and vintage sources. I look for words or meaningful phrases/quotes to build with as I draw, paint and collage all aspects of each unique piece in search of a working composition, that delights and surprises. The main subject matter, outside the abstract layering/collage, are birds, butterflies, flowers and a variety of natural forms sometimes in connection with the human figure. The visual stories I tell touch upon many layers of our hearts and souls living in connection with the world in an affirmative way.
