All aboard for “Ride Through History” trolley tours. Staff from the National Park Service and Seward House Museum will lead free narrated tours as part of the City of Auburn’s Juneteenth Weekend Celebration. Stops include a number of downtown sites related to Tubman and Seward family history. Seating is limited, and reservations are required; contact kimberly_szewczyk@nps.gov or (315) 882- 8060 for reservations.

 

Join us on Facebook as we go live with Dennis Carr, the Virginia Steele Scott Chief Curator of American Art at The Huntington Library as he leads a virtual tour of the gallery where Thomas Cole’s “Portage Falls on the Genesee” is now on permanent display. This part of a continuous programming partnership between the SHM and The Huntington will trace this history of the painting, explore its Seward connections, and contextualize the ways that the artist offered it as a criticism of industrialization.

 

Part of the SHM’s 2022 Specialty Tour series to be offered on the second Wednesday of every month. Back by popular demand! Pulled from the Seward family papers at the University of Rochester, this tour focuses on some of the more shocking and scandalous stories from the archives. Gossip, intrigue, and tales of bad behavior abound in accounts you won’t hear about on any other tour of the SHM.

$15 for general public, $10 for members. Reservations recommended.

Join us for our June First Friday reception! We will have art by Sally Stormon on display in our gift shop, and we are hosting Colleen Kattau and her band in the gardens. Two rooms in the Museum will be open for interpretataion, and refreshments will be provided. We look forward to seeing you there!
