In due time…..when I shall have paid the debt of Nature, my remains will rest here in your midst with those of my kindred and neighbors. It is possible they may be unhonored, neglected, spurned! But, perhaps, years hence …..some wandering stranger, some lone exile may erect over them a humble stone, and thereon, this epitaph, “He was Faithful.”

Centaur bookends
Late 19th century
A pair of bronze centaur bookends. One bronze centaur has his head thrown back and his arms behind his back as he stands on a rectangular marble base. The other bookend shows a clean shaven bronze centaur carrying a club and a skin of a fox over one arm while the other arm is raised up as he stands on a rectangular marble base.
