In due time…..when I shall have paid the debt of Nature, my remains will rest here in your midst with those of my kindred and neighbors. It is possible they may be unhonored, neglected, spurned! Confederate Money

These particular bills, currently kept in storage, were issued by the Confederate States in 1862 and 1864. We have an example of the 50 cent, 2 dollar, 5 dollar, 10 dollar, 20 dollar, and 50 dollar notes. Secretary Seward’s sons, Augustus and Will Jr, were both Union soldiers who could have acquired this money during the war.
