FANNY SEWARD PORTRAIT BY EMANUEL LEUTZE
c. 1867
Oil on canvas 3/4 portrait of Frances "Fanny" Adeline Seward (1844-1866), daughter of Sec. Seward. Young girl with dark hair pulled back, with some loose curls falling on back; she is facing left. She is wearing a gown with a sheer white lace upper bodice and lavender lower bodice and skirt. Posthumous portrait includes several symbols to show that Fanny had passed away: downturned bouquet, stormy clouds, white "corpse hand," morning glories.
