Success in any undertaking comes of patient, unremitting effort. You cannot have it, unless you resolutely concentrate your energies upon your work; and resolutely refuse to be diverted by other subjects, no matter how important or interesting. When something else thrusts itself in, and demands notice, you must be ready to say: “I pass that by. I am going ahead.”

Centaur bookends
Late 19th century
A pair of bronze centaur bookends. One bronze centaur has his head thrown back and his arms behind his back as he stands on a rectangular marble base. The other bookend shows a clean shaven bronze centaur carrying a club and a skin of a fox over one arm while the other arm is raised up as he stands on a rectangular marble base.
