Silver Filigree Ink set

Mid-late 19th Century

Mexican, silver filigree inkstand with three containers on top (ink and sander) and 3" high silver bell engraved "Memoria de Gratitud  Un Mexicano."  Oval shape with inset corners, two handles and leaf and paw feet.  Italian-stye filigree.  Pen with gold filigree feather top and gold tip. "W.Seward" in gold.  Made by A. Herrera & Camacho. Presented to Sec. Wm. H. Seward by "an unknown party from Mexico."  He visited Mexico during the winter of 1869 to 1870.  A notation also says that similar ink stands were presented to President Lincoln and General Grant.
