It is said that the old Seward kitchen was one of the most popular stations of the Underground Railroad, and that many a poor slave who fled by this route to Canada carried to his grave the remembrance of its warmth and cheer.

Gilt-bronze girandole

Three gilt-bronze girandoles on a white marble bases. Each has a gilt-bronze deer with flowers sits below the girandole on the marble base. Two of the girandole's have two candle holders while the large one has three candle holders. On each candle holder are clusters of prisms.
