There are many who can spread a story over twenty pages; but very few who can condense it into one.
Confederate Money
c. 1860s
These particular bills, currently kept in storage, were issued by the Confederate States in 1862 and 1864. We have an example of the 50 cent, 2 dollar, 5 dollar, 10 dollar, 20 dollar, and 50 dollar notes. Secretary Seward’s sons, Augustus and Will Jr, were both Union soldiers who could have acquired this money during the war.
