Become a Volunteer
Seward House Museum offers a variety of opportunities for individuals interested in volunteering. Volunteer placement is made based on an individual’s interests, experience, abilities, availability, and on current volunteer openings.
To volunteer, contact Joyce Cavanaugh at volunteer@sewardhouse.org.

Volunteers assist the Museum staff in the following capacities:
Docents (Tour Guide)
Provide guided tours through the home. A wonderful way to share your love of history with others.
The front desk volunteer
Greets visitor, explain museum tour, and answer general questions.
Volunteers assist staff at occasional daytime, evening and weekend programs and events. Volunteers greet guests, monitor program attendance, help serve refreshments, escort visitors, and perform other duties as needed.
Teen Volunteers
Volunteers gain valuable work experience as they help staff the Information Desk on Saturdays and during the summer. Teen volunteers also assist staff with education programs during the summer months.
Garden Gurus
Garden volunteers help with the maintenance and care of our large grounds. Green thumbs are welcome to adopt a bed and make it their own and, for those with not so green thumbs, we are always looking for people to help water and weed. Our garden volunteers are welcome to come and go at their convenience and/or participate in scheduled garden spruce up days. The museum has tools available for use but recommends that you bring your own hand tools and gloves. This is a wonderful volunteer activity for the whole family.
A note from John Kingsley Education Director and Volunteer Coordinator.
